To kick off the metallic thread series, I thought it would be fitting to tell you how to sew with metallic thread! It's not super hard, but does require some prep work for a smooth sew. A couple years ago I tried metallic thread but I did everything wrong and it was really hard to sew with. It was one of those experiences that made me avoid metallic thread for a while. It's such a bummer when something turns out like that when all I needed were a few simple tools to make it work. So despite your past experiences with metallic thread, ...Continue Reading

metallic thread series!
Metallic thread has opened up a whole new world to me in the last few months. It is super fun to sew with and has my mind spinning with ideas for things I can glam up a bit! I find inspiration all over the place, but oftentimes the material itself will shape my project and that is what metallic thread has been doing for me! I've put together a little series for the next week or so in partnership with Babylock, Madeira thread and Klasse. I had a lot of fun putting this together. I love how one little sewing supply can give you so many ...Continue Reading
striped metallic hair bow
Today I'm sharing the last project of the Metallic Thread Mini-Series. It has been so fun playing with a new sewing supply! This project is another very simple project, a bow with a striped metallic touch. I used Gold Heavy Metal thread from Maderia. It's really fine and nice and sleek to sew with. For the bow piece, reference one of these tutorials: Date Night Double Bow Knot Bow Tutorial Materials: -Scrap of chambray -Madeira Heavy Metal Thread -hair clip -glue gun Before sewing up the bow, sew stripes of metallic thread ...Continue Reading
FREE PATTERN // metallic gem zipper pouch
This thread is inspiring all sorts of projects. Today I'm sharing this metallic gem zipper pouch project. It has a free pattern download and these are just so cute! You can really use them for anything! I'm going to hoard them for the holidays, probably stuff them with lipgloss for friends. This is my Christmas in July prep, a little late obviously! It will be nice to have a few gifts ready to go! Something about the sparkly, shiny thread got me thinking about gems and jewels. This geometric take on the standard zipper pouch is very ...Continue Reading
metallic silver ruffle tank tutorial
This post is sponsored by Babylock. Earlier today I posted about how the Melody machine takes all my machine feet (the cheapo generic feet!) including the ruffler! There is also a complete tutorial on how to install the foot. But now, I wanted to show you how to put that ruffler foot to good use! I have the most fun using my ruffler foot with unique fabrics that look really lucious in perfectly spaced gathers. I picked up this metallic spandex in Berkeley this summer. So here's how to make this cute little metallic ruffle baby ...Continue Reading

Clear stadium bag...but make it Swiftie! In this post I'll show you how to make an adjustable strap for any bag! These straps can be totally customized and add a personal touch to a shoulder bag or purse! These are Taylor Swift themed - perfect for the Eras tour - but you can make them any theme you want! This adjustable purse strap ...Continue Reading

Gallery Canvas Wall with SPOONFLOWER!
I'm excited to be a part of the Spoonflower Handbook tour today and to share a little corner of my home with you! The Spoonflower blog is a brand new book from Spoonflower that is full of sewing projects. It also breaks down fabric designing from start to finish, including specifics about formatting, etc. It's so inspiring and just chock-ful of sewing goodness! I decided to do one of their photo projects. I had 4 photos printed on Eco Canvas, sewed them up with a casing on the back. I used dowels to hang them up on my wall and I'm ...Continue Reading
sherbet doll quilt tutorial & ruched corner binding technique!
Ever since I released the doll fabric panels, my kids have been playing with them constantly. They especially like to put them in our little doll bed, so I've been making doll blankets for them! This cute quilt is really simple and can be upsized for larger quilts. It's also the most basic kind of quilt I can think of--just a whole bunch of squares arranged in a diagonal pattern. I'm also sharing a technique I made up to avoid mitering corners! I'll show you how to round the corners and then use 1" (METALLIC!) binding with basting to gather ...Continue Reading
little zippy top with hexagons
Today's shiny, sparkly project is a little zippy top! I customized the fabric of this top before sewing it up. That is one of the best parts of sewing for me, making something totally custom! Hexagons are a fun shape and the best part is all the sides are straight so it's easy to stitch them on. I used a Glamour thread for this. It's easy and fun to do! The stitching isn't perfect on this project, it was my first go at metallic thread. I worked through learning by using all the steps mentioned in my sewing 101 post. By the time I was ...Continue Reading
