It's ZIPPY TOP day! One of my favorite ways to sew up the Little Zippy Top is with a matching gathered skirt. It's a two-piece set but it looks like a dress! I love the flexibility of having separates that you can mix and match into your current wardrobe. And I used one of those cool zippers I showed you on Instagram! In this post I'm also sharing a quick elastic gathered skirt tutorial so you can make the whole outfit! I used Falsies from my fabric line, Kiss Me Kate! This is the fuchsia color way, it's is one of my favorites from the ...Continue Reading

The Zippy top pattern is my most-hacked pattern! Its just so versatile! So here's another hack - a zippy dress with a slight high-low hem for girls! You've already seen these photos over in the Scallop Clutch tutorial but I have to use them again to show you this DIY ruffle sleeve top made from the ZIPPY top pattern. This is yet another Zippy hack. I just can't help hacking it up all different ways! This is the women's version of the Little Zippy hack and it's actually exactly the same instructions. So head over and follow the instructions. The only difference in the pattern is the width of the sleeve. You can choose how long you want your ruffle to be, mine is about 6". I used Art ...Continue Reading
pattern fusion // zippy top turned DIY jumpsuit
I made this jumpsuit a few weeks ago and I have been living in it. It's soooo comfortable! I guess I never thought about how comfortable a jumper would be! And since it is made out of knit, it's extra comfy. I'm thinking I will get a lot of use out of this jumpsuit in the summer. It almost feels like a maxi dress in how cool and lightweight it is, if that makes sense. This is another Pattern Fusion, which means it's super easy to make! The two patterns are my Zippy Top pattern and the Go To Patterns Go To Knit Pants, which ...Continue Reading
little zippy top with hexagons
Today's shiny, sparkly project is a little zippy top! I customized the fabric of this top before sewing it up. That is one of the best parts of sewing for me, making something totally custom! Hexagons are a fun shape and the best part is all the sides are straight so it's easy to stitch them on. I used a Glamour thread for this. It's easy and fun to do! The stitching isn't perfect on this project, it was my first go at metallic thread. I worked through learning by using all the steps mentioned in my sewing 101 post. By the time I was ...Continue Reading
zippy top hack: gathered loose blouse
Today is the last day of the Zippy Top sewalong! Boo hoo! It has been so fun though..thank you for participating! And keep on sewing if you haven't finished yet! This is double sided double gauze from Miss Matatabi, it's so amazing! The other side is polka dot so I had a hard time deciding which side to use. But you know how I love gingham... I made a blouse by following the basic directions of the Zippy Dress hack. The only thing I changed is the ratio of fabric. It's much shorter in the width than the dress version. I belted it with a ...Continue Reading
zippy top hack // decorative pocket tutorial
This is actually a double hack! I made a zippy top with a front zipper (see tutorial here) and then added a little tiny pocket to the side. I shared this fabric the other day on the Miss Matatabi fabric giveaway post (still time to enter, the giveaway ends 4/25!). I LOVE it. It's a cotton lawn called Japanese fabric forest. It has little tiny animals like squirrels and owls and bunnies hidden in a gorgeous floral print! The bright primary colors are a little out of my comfort zone, I'm trying to stretch myself with colors. I used a navy zipper ...Continue Reading
