Nobody’s ever given me a handmade gift. lol
My grandmother made me a “granny dress” when I was about 6 years old. Some kids poked fun at me for wearing such a long dress. I guess it wasn’t in style at the time, I don’t know. All I do know is that I loved that dress and wore it proudly, and I loved my grandmother for making it. That’s when I understood how special hand made gifts were – its all the love that’s put into them that makes them so special. And the gifts that my grandmother made for me also inspired me to do the same with my own children. Just this past Halloween I hand-sewed part of my eleven year old son’s costume. He needed a vest to go with his Bilbo Baggins costume. I was very proud of myself for not messing up on this project. It took a full day to complete, but it was worth it, and my son just loves it. These past couple of days since Halloween, He’s been wearing it during the day and sleeping in it at night. That’s the power of hand-made things. It’s a true compliment to the maker.
Love! Great idea!
The nicest handmade gift I ever received was promptly stolen from me! A couple years ago my work did a Yankee-Swap gift exchange and the first gift I picked from the pile was a lovely extra-long scarf in varying shades of green- my favorite color! Unfortunately, one of the next people in the gift-swap-game decided to “steal” instead of taking her chances on another gift from the pile… I ended up with something really ugly and useless in the end. Oh well, we all got a laugh out of it!
