sherbet doll quilt tutorial & ruched corner binding technique!
Ever since I released the doll fabric panels, my kids have been playing with them constantly. They especially like to put them in our little doll bed, so I've been making doll blankets for them! This cute quilt is really simple and can be upsized for larger quilts. It's also the most basic kind of quilt I can think of--just a whole bunch of squares arranged in a diagonal pattern. I'm also sharing a technique I made up to avoid mitering corners! I'll show you how to round the corners and then use 1" (METALLIC!) binding with basting to gather ...Continue Reading
Pattern Anthology for Riley Blake!
I'm on the Riley Blake Tour today sharing my new FABRIC! I designed this triangle print fabric for the IDLEWILD collection by Pattern Anthology! This collection is a 4 piece knit collection that comes in 3 colorways! It will be available this fall and we can't wait to make things with it! I wanted to design a colorful and modern print that could be used for a variety of sewing projects! Since this will be a knit, I'm seeing the triangles as baby pants, baby blankets, soft couch pillows, girl's dresses, boys sweatshirts, and on and on. The ...Continue Reading
ONE HOUR triangle quilt!
Yes, you read that right! ONE HOUR triangle quilt! I made this triangle quilt in a little over an hour. HOW IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE??, you ask. Read on. neon arrow scarf
One of my new year's sewing resolutions is to sew something for my self each month. So this is January's scarf! (I made it in January, I promise!) It was cold and I wanted a cuddly scarf that wouldn't be itchy, so I made this out of knit fabric with a layer of fleece in the middle. You could use batting, too. But I have a ton of fleece left over from my fleece phase back in October. It's like a blanket around my neck! Materials:1 yard interlock knitfleece or battingyarnpom pom makerInstructions:Cut the interlock into two 11" by 60" ...Continue Reading
foot fetish: another binding foot!
After posting about my binding foot and the fleece blanket I made with it, Sewing Parts Online offered to send me one of their binding feet. Can I say no to free machine feet??? Not possible. Foot fetish intensified. This one is a little different than my adjustable binding foot. It work similarly, but the parts are all metal and not plastic. It isn't adjustable and is just right for 1/2" binding. I love that because I bought a bunch of single fold 1/2" binding and I didn't know what to do with it. (I normally despise single fold.) You ...Continue Reading
sewing 101: tips for sewing with faux fur + where to buy it
//Pay attention to the direction of the fur as you cut your pieces. It will act like a one-way design, so you may need extra yardage to compensate. //When sewing a seam, brush the fur away from the seam to prevent it from getting too caught in the seam. //After you sew the seam, make it look more natural by gently pulling the fur out of the sewn seam with the dull side of your scissors. //Faux fur can get thick really quickly, so be gentle as you guide it through your machine. Using lots of pins will help compact it. You may have to ...Continue Reading
