How to Sew the Foundation Paper Pieced Heart Block
Start with a piece big enough for Section 2, place it ON TOP of the pattern piece (see the second photo below). Then find a piece big enough for Section 1 and place it at the raw edge of the main fabric, overlapping the line between sections 1 and 2 about 1/4.”

Sew over the line using a 1.8mm stitch length. Press the fabric out.

Now repeat the process with Section 3. If you need to you can trim down some of the main fabric so you can see the pattern underneath better.

Sew right on top of the line between 2 and 3.

Whenever you add fabric, if you have too much on the back, fold the fabrics and patter piece out of the way and trim down the seam allowances to 1/4.” Be sure to have all the fabric and the pattern out of the way, it’s easy to get lost in all the flaps and cut off something you don’t want to! If you end up cutting off part of the pattern, it’s okay, but it is better to have the pattern there until the end.

Press Section 3 up and repeat with Section 4.

Press the fabric up and press.

Flip the block over and trim from the back, tracing the paper.

Rip off the paper from the back of the block.

Repeat to make the second half of the heart and remove the paper

Sew the two halves together with right sides together and a 1/4″ seam allowance.
Press seam allowance open to finish the block!
