Mini dresses for some reason remind me of Scout Finch. Maybe I should read To Kill a Mockingbird again, but it seems like if little Scout were to pick a dress to wear, she’d pick a short one because a long one might get in the way of running around. Right?
But anyways, this project is so quick! You can do this to any dress pattern or even a plain dress you already have. I called upon my 5-year-old fan club member Brooke to model for me. Where do they learn to model, these little girls? Raw talent!
Materials:
mini dress
1/4 yard lace
For this pink and lace dress, I drafted a mini dress pattern and 3 layers of lace all ruffled together to the front. You’ll need three pieces of lace, 2″, 3″ and 4″ wide. They should be twice the length of the dress.
Stack them up and ruffle them. I used a ruffler foot but you can also ruffle them manually.
Now you have a big ruffly piece of lace.
Pin it to the center front of your dress and sew it on.
Now assemble the rest of the dress normally! You can also sew this on to a finished dress, it doesn’t really matter when you put the ruffle piece on.
Perfect little dress for playing!
Mini dresses are adorable!
