When pulling together a sewing room from scratch, a few fundamental items are necessary but it can be overwhelming to know where to start. Amazon is a treasure trove! Here are 10 products that would work well in any creative space:
1- These white chairs are light weight (they’re easy to move around as you work on various projects) and look great!
2- Peg boards are so useful for holding notions and thread that you want nearby. This metal peg board comes in lots of colors and is super sturdy!
3- I have 2 of these thread racks, and they’re both almost full! You can sit them on a tabletop or hang them on a wall. It’s so handy to have every thread color at your fingertips.
4- Area rugs are an easy and fun way to add color and pattern to any room but especially to a creative space. This floral rug is so pretty!! It’s not too shaggy (accidentally dropping pins into shag carpet…no thank you!) and the busy pattern will hide clipped threads and bits of fabric. Less vacuuming, more sewing.
5- A nice, big, smooth work space to cut out patterns is a must. This desk provides that and has tons of drawers and compartments for storage! Plus, it’s on wheels so moving it around to fit your needs is easy.
6- More storage! But storage can also be pretty. These clear drawers are the perfect example of function and beauty, they would be great for storing buttons, zippers or anything else you want to organize but also keep on display.
7- Nothing fancy here but a white board is very important to have in a creative space! Scribble down all those random project ideas, map out patterns quickly, write up that impossibly long to do list and get bummed out every time you walk past it… you get the idea. ;)
8- Art and wall hangings are another way to personalize a space and keep yourself motivated and excited! This print is fun and positive and simple typography is always a nice touch.
9- These cloth storage bins are collapsible, but durable, and a great size for storing folded fabric.
10- Having a place to hang projects in progress or garments that need ironing (why does everything always need to be ironed?! haha) is so nice! This closet system meets those needs and has shelves for even more storage.
Anything else you like to have in your sewing space??

Ooh- love all these! I’m also working on making a pretty creative space out of my crap-filled corner basement ???? and I always need plenty of good lighting down there! i have an IKEA hanging bulb over the desk but just added a pretty task lamp as well and it makes all the difference! Can’t wait to see your new finished space!

Instead of stationary chairs I use secretary chairs. I have 2, 2 between cutting table and Janome, husky and server machines. The other by my ironing table, Bernina and Viking machines. Easy to swivel it scoot between work areas.
