big huge pink bow tutorial

alt description.
I just loved the look of this oversized bow with the Neapolitan dress! As you might have guessed by now, I love oversized details. The bigger the better. It totally worked for the distressed birthday girl look that we were going for. What is fashion without drama? Nothing!
So anyways, here’s how to make this big bow…I originally made it to be the front feature of a dress. But the dress didn’t work so I ripped it off and glued a hair clip to it.
First, cut out your pieces, two rectangles and fuse interfacing to them. Then fold your large piece in half, hot dog style, and sew it up. You’ll want to leave a 5″ or wider opening in the middle of the piece. Use a 1/2″ seam allowance.

Then turn it and press. Make sure to fold in the opening and press it, too. You don’t need to sew up this part since it will be wrapped up with the middle bow part next.

For the middle section, take your small rectangle and fold it in thirds. Press.
To assemble the bow, lay your long stripe out as shown below. Then cinch it where indicated and wrap the middle piece around.
Pin the ends together and stitch close to the bow.
Cut off the extra.
And you’re done! You can glue a hair clip on the back, or attach them to a headband or shirt!

Can I use any fabric? I am taking apart a sheer polyester dress and revamping it for a Minnie Mouse costume.

yeah, any kind of fabric will work! The sheer polyester might be more floppy than stiff like mine, but you could always use interfacing to make it stiffer, depending on what look you’re going for!

      good luck!

Hi! it’s a lovely big bow, just what I was looking for, but I have a problem, I’m from chile and I speak spanish so I really dont know what do you mean by “cinch here”, what is cinch, I’ve been looking on the internet but nothing has clear this doubt.
    hugs!

This is excellent, I’ve entered in a competition called Miss Pinup New Zealand 2013 and I need something for the dress I will be wearing. Thank you so much!
