Must-Try Dollar Tree Sewing Hacks for Every Sewist

Welcome to See Kate Sew! If you’re new here, sign up for my email newsletter for access to free patterns, tutorials and all the latest sewing news! Tour my sewing room HERE!

A good sewing hack always inspires me! I love roaming the store looking for Dollar Tree sewing hacks and I found a list you can try today!

If you love these hacks, also see my previous post with 24 more ideas! (and another printable)

This list has a few items that will help you organize your sewing space, a few quick projects with fabric and more!

Best Dollar Tree Sewing Hacks – Cute Pill Organizer for Buttons

I am obsessed with this colorful pill case! As soon as I saw it I knew it would be the perfect place for little buttons.

I love the sun and the moon on the top, too, what a cute detail! And it was available in a few different colors at my store. You can store lots of things in this – buttons, rhinestones, beads and more!

Dollar Tree Sewing Hacks

Each day has two compartments, separated in the middle. So you can’t fit larger buttons in them, but buttons up to about 5/8″ or so will fit just fine!

Dry Erase Markers for Quilt Rulers – Dollar Tree Sewing Hacks

Grab some dry erase markers and try this quick hack for quilting rulers! I use these markers in 2 ways:

  1. Marking the middle of a trimming ruler. Marking the middle helps me quickly trim blocks like quarter square triangles – I can just align the dot on the middle of the block and trim off the rest to make sure I have it nice and centered.
  2. Marking larger rulers for trimming smaller blocks. I don’t have every size ruler so drawing lines and marking the middle point helps me trim any size block!

Felt Bulletin Board – Quilt Block Design Board

I grabbed this mini felt bulletin board immediately when I saw it! It might be new because I haven’t seen it before – you will find it in the office supply section. The board is about 10″ square and makes the perfect design board. The felt holds your fabric so you can hang it on the wall. This will help you decide fabric placement when making quilt blocks! How fun!

Mini Chalkboard for Sewing Notes

I saw this mini chalkboard on an end cap and had to have it! This little cutie has an easel back so it stands up. It’s so handy for writing out quilt block dimensions or formulas so you can keep them fresh in your mind while making blocks!

Glass Jars for Sewing Organization

There are lots of containers at the Dollar Tree, but I love these cute glass jars for displaying fun sewing supplies. Sometimes I forget I have cute things to add to my projects (like these patches!) but having them in a glass jar will help remind me and inspire me! I filled another one with colorful lace.

Quick Sewing Kit

I found a sewing kit I hadn’t seen before – it’s 28 pieces and includes a safety pin, needles, a needle threader, scissors, thread and a measuring tape. It’s perfect for on-the-go. Just dump it all into any zipper case! I put mine in my scissor print zipper case.

Decoupage Wooden Tray

I am obsessed with this wooden tray and you won’t believe how easy it is! I was really surprised to find these unfinished wooded trays in the craft section – for just $1.25! All I did to make it cute was mod podge a piece of fabric to the bottom.

And now it’s an extra cute organizing tray or jewelry tray! It fits thread nicely but I’m sure you can find a hundred more uses in your sewing room!

Dollar Tree Sewing Hacks

All you need is a wooden tray (there are a few sizes available), a paintbrush, mod podge and a 5″ square of fabric. You can cut your own square or use a charm square.

Reusable Microfiber Makeup Remover Wipes – Dollar Tree Sewing Hacks

I made reusable makeup wipes with dollar store microfiber! Just add a liquid makeup remover or micellar water and you’ll reduce so much waste!

Dollar Tree Sewing Hacks

And they are way cute and easy to boot! This is a great beginner project.

To make microfiber wipes with fabric on the back, cut out a piece of microfiber to match your charm square (5″) and then sew them together with right sides together. Use a 1/4″ seam allowance and leave a small opening on one side. Then clip corners, trim and turn right side out. Press and topstitch around the outside edge at 1/8.”
