the man with the yellow hat tutorial

The man with the yellow hat hat
Measure your kiddos head and find something circular that is about the same size.
Trace it onto felt. I used 1/2 yard of felt and had lots left over.
Measure out 4 inches in every direction from your drawn line. Pencil little dots all the way around.
Connect the dots and cut out the circle.
Then cut out the inside.
Sew the pieces together around the outside with 1/4″ seam allowance.
Clip the seam.
Turn inside out and topstitch.
Now you need two pieces that look kinda like this. The bottom edge should be 1/2 the circumference of your kid’s head plus 1 inch.
Sew them together and pin the hat piece to the brim.
Sew it together and you’re all done!

Thank you for posting this. I have been collecting stuff for Halloween…my kiddos are gonna be Curious George and The Man with the Yellow Hat. I was wondering how I was gonna get the hat made!!

Totally random, I know, but I thought I’d throw out that a friend of mine from back in college played The Man in the Yellow Hat in the national tour of Curious George (last year?) He’s now in China playing Big Bird on some international tour of a Sesame Street show. Like I said. Totally random.

Thanks! My son was really not happy with beach bucket hat alternative, but I think I can manage this. I found the yellow shirt at cookiekids and a yellow tie online. Think I’m going to have to dye some yellow sweat pants.
