These are essential sewing room hacks that will make your space more functional and organized! These sewing room storage ideas are clever and so easy!

I love a good sewing space and these hacks will help you love yours, too!
Ribbon Organizer
This is the best sewing room hack! Keep your ribbons in one place, neatly organized and ready to unroll! I love this because the ribbon is all easy to see and access without disrupting your system! You can use small pieces of tape or pins to keep the ends from unravelling.
For this project you need a plastic bin or storage basket with holes in it and wooden dowels with a small enough diameter to fit in the holes and long enough to stretch from one side of the basket to the other.
I got both my basket and precut dowels at Walmart.
Depending on your size of ribbon, you can choose a smaller or larger or deeper bin.
I also used some removable wallpaper from the Dollar Tree to make the bottom more fun. Just trace the bottom of the basket on the wallpaper and stick it down.
Oui Yogurt Jars for Small Sewing Notions
These Oui brand yogurts come in adorable little glass jars that are too good to throw away! The tops are aluminum so you won’t have a lid but they are the sweetest jars that hold small notions and supplies such as buttons, safety pins, and bobbins nicely.
Since these are open jars I think they are great inside a larger container or on a cute shelf.
Talenti Ice Cream Containers for Larger Sewing Supplies
Talenti brand gelato comes in the cutest plastic containers that can be reused for notions storage!
These have a screw top lid and are a great size for lots of things like sewing clips, large buttons, glue gun glue sticks, bag hardware and more! The gelato is also delicious, so it’s a win-win!
Tackle Box Sewing Room Hack
The tackle box is a perfect way to make a small space feel manageable! It’s also great for transporting to the dining room table or any other area you use to sew.
These are efficient enough to hold everything from fabric to tools to buttons. Plus they come in the cutest colors! I bought this one online and it’s actually labeled for sewing. The two compartments at the top have dividers that you can move to where you want for different sizes of notions.
And the large bin in the bottom can hold so much – fabric, a mini iron, extra thread, sewing scissors, rotary cutters and more!
Stackable Work-in-Progress Bins
This is one of my favorite ways to keep track of projects that I can’t finish in one sitting (which is most of my projects!) Since I am often working on more than one thing at once, these keep me organized!
I can put all the fabric, pattern pieces and notions required in the bin and then stack them up to save space.
It’s easy to reach for an access when I want to work on the project again!
This method also helps me stay motivated since it’s easy to pick the project back up. You can use bins from anywhere for this! The first ones I showed are from Walmart an these bins below are from the Dollar Tree:
Sewing Room Hacks – Small Cardboard Fabric Bolts
I’m always on the hunt for fabric storage sewing room hacks and this one is my favorite.
This simple method for storing fabric yardage makes a beautiful display.
All you need are 12″ by 12″ cardboard pieces. You can cut these yourself of buy a pack of them – a pack of 25 is about $15 on Amazon.
These work best for lengths of 1.5-4 yards.
See the video in this post to see how to wrap them! Once you wrap them you can store them on any shelf or in a stack!
Hardware Drawers
Hardware drawers are so handy for little craft supplies!
These can be found at hardware stores or sometimes craft stores and there are plenty on Amazon.
- This organizer is similar to mine but has 9 drawers and comes in pink, black, blue, green, purple, lavender, dark pink, white and yellow – and they come in a 2 pack! (Amazon affiliate links) I want them all!
- This one is a little bigger and has 24 drawers
- I also love this clear acrylic drawer organizer – the pink one is so pretty!
I love how easy it is to sort and organize with hardware drawers and I’m sure you’ll figure out how to use one in your sewing space!
Shower Caddy for Ironing Accessories
I have never had all of my ironing supplies in one place but I do now with this simple hack!
I grabbed a shower caddy at Walmart and loaded it with my misting water bottle, spray starch, tailor’s clapper, hem clips and iron cleaner. Now I can just grab it when I need to iron something and put it back on the shelf when I’m done!
Machine Foot Storage
Instead of throwing all your machine presser feet into a bin, try a clear plastic organizer! These are commonly used for embroidery floss or beads and fit most presser feet.
Some are even adjustable or have larger compartments for bigger feet. I labeled the bottoms of mine with vinyl so I know which foot is which.
