These photos are a bit hilarious. I thought about redoing the photoshoot after Mae had a day, but then I realized they are kinda perfect, too. I’m sewing for my life, and that involves a bit of tears, rocking and chasing babies, a little comforting and this dress is kinda perfect for all of those!
I worked with JOANN to create a New Year’s Eve look using fabrics from their stores. I love the glitz and glam of New Years Eve and the freshness of the holiday. It’s a total fashion inspiration, too! So many good fabrics to play around with! I feel like it gives you an excuse to branch out a bit in your fabric choices and try something you wouldn’t normally pick! I made this glitzy yet practical dress to wear on New Year’s Eve, but in truth I’ve been wearing it weekly already! So I guess New Year’s wear is fine as everyday wear, too ;)
The pattern is my Scorpio pattern in the midi length with a long sleeve. I used Panne Velvet from the Glitterbug collection in black. I added stretch pleather elbow patches in gold! I think elbow patches are a fun touch to add, especially winter-wear. I interfaced these with lightweight interfacing just to keep them from stretching as I sewed them on and to give them a bit of sturdiness. I have never been disappointed by the Yaya Han cosplay collection at JOANN and this pleather is from that collection!
Crushed velvet is so warm and soft to wear but shine makes it look so fancy. This crushed velvet also comes in other colors, too! I have some yardage of the Hunter green sitting in my sewing room, but I’m also crushing on Olive. I’m not quite sure what to make with it, I’m tempted to just make another of these!
And I’m ready to make more NYE dresses! Maybe with this stretch lace in deep red, or this embossed velvet!
Happy New Year!
