Let’s make the matching skirt!
Materials//
-yardage will depend on the size skirt you are making.
-1″ elastic
INSTRUCTIONS//
I made a size 3 to go with my size 3 Little Zippy Top, so I’ll share both the measurements for size 3 and the relative dimensions so you can make this skirt in any size! You can even make it in your own size, see my Paper Bag Skirt Tutorial! I love the style and it is fun that you can make it in any fabric!
Cut 1 piece of fabric 43″ wide (twice the waist measurement + seam allowance) by 10″ tall (desired length + 2″).
For larger sizes, double the waist measurement, divide by 2 and add seam allowance to get your width.
Step 1: Finish top and bottom edges with a serger or a zig zag stitch.
Step 2: Fold down the top of the skirt 1.5″ and press. Fold up the bottom of the skirt 1/2″ and press.
Step 3: Hem bottom edge at 3/8″. Sew two lines of stitching along the top 1 3/8″ and 3/8″ from the top folded edge. This will make a casing just big enough for 1″ elastic.
Step 4: Thread 1″ elastic through the casing. The elastic should be your child’s waist measurement.
Step 5: Continue threading elastic through until it reaches the other side. It will gather up the fabric. Secure at each end by stitching the elastic to the fabric. Sew side seam and you’re done!
For larger sizes, you will create two pieces using 1/2 of the wait measurement and then sew the front and back together.
