RUFFLES 2013 starts on Monday! Like THIS Monday! I'm so so excited! If you've been around here for a while you may have caught Ruffles 2012 or even 2011, but if not, RUFFLES is my yearly event where we sew ruffles on everything for a few weeks. Because, why not? I have a great line-up of guests, with my own tutorials thrown in there are some exciting things to share. (Oh and some fabric giveaways! And a free pattern/sew-a-long!) sewing 101: deconstructed zipper teeth seam tutorial
I love the deconstruction fashion look, I think it can be especially fun for boy clothes. It seems there are so many more details to add to girl clothes, like ruffles, flowers, and bows. So instead of those, how about some zipper teeth! I originally thought of this idea because I shorten zippers all the time. A few years ago my mom bought me 200 (literally) vintage zippers. They were 25 cents each so I told her to buy them all. (Duh, right!). I still have a bazillion left, but most are longer, 14" or more. So I shorten zippers drastically ...Continue Reading

DIY jeggings tutorial + a gold baby belt!
Ah, a real tutorial! I'm apparently really lazy every summer, so tutorials have been really sparse. But I love making tutorials, so here is a real tutorial (finally!). I'm just getting back into a routine and excited about it. This is a pattern hack! How to turn a regular leggings pattern into jeggings! I am using my favorite legging pattern by Go To Patterns, the Go To Signature Leggings. I've used them before, to make these tribal leggings. Best legging pattern. Baby jeggings are adorable, right? I mean, yes yes they are. I don't care ...Continue Reading

cottage mama miss matilda dress
Today I'm participating in the very last day of the Cottage Mama's new pattern blog tour! I sewed up the Miss Matilda Top and Skip and Play Pants. I was really excited to try out these patterns because they go down to size 6 months! I used a dotted swiss chambray that I've had for a while and a vintage floral fabric that I almost got rid of a few times. So glad I didn't, whew! I think floral and polka dots is a really cute combo. The pants pattern calls for three fabrics, but I couldn't find another fabric to pair well, so I just ...Continue Reading

I have a new pattern coming out very soon that is designed for knits and a new enthusiasm for sewing with knits after discovering Girl Charlee's website.
