I used the fancy pants leggings from the sew fab bundle to make these super cute floral baby leggings. I used two knits from Girl Charlee. The grey striped one has white stripes that almost look crocheted, I love it! And it has a nice texture to it. The pattern has a little bum piece so I used a contrast floral for that part. This project took like 15 minutes, it was really simple to sew and I love the look! This pattern is only available in the sew fab bundle for a few more days, so grab yours HERE! (Only $1.15 per pattern!) It ...Continue Reading
what to bring a new mom: new mom essentials gift basket
One of my friends just had her first baby! A boy! Hooray! I wanted to bring her a little "new mom gift basket" with all the things that I could not live without the first few weeks postpartum. Like, all the things that would make me cry if I ran out of. I'm tearing up just thinking about those really hard (and equally amazing) first few days. You know, the ones where you're like "He's crying...what do I do!!?" and "I can't believe he's so tiny" "My crotch hurts", and other pleasant and unpleasant things. So here's a cute little gift idea for ...Continue Reading
the daydream dress + twin sheet set yardage conversion
The Daydream Ruffle Dress pattern started out as an entirely different sketch. It did not look ANYTHING like what it turned out to be. I don't even think it had any ruffles to begin with! Anyways, it's a total ruffled explosion now, I think I had Ruffle 2013 on the mind. This might be the girliest dress I have ever made. I made one for the baby, too. It's stil just a tad too big, but it won't be for long. (Maybe I'll make that original sketch someday...) My favorite part of the design is the double ruffle sleeves. For my cover photos ...Continue Reading
4 new patterns! the nostalgia pattern collection release!
I'm so excited to release my fall pattern collection today! I've been working on these patterns for what seems like forever. NOSTALGIA is a 4-piece collection that includes a knit tee, cozy sweatshirt, ruffle dress and A-line coat! I was feeling a little nostalgic while designing this collection so I named the patterns after classic toys (VIEWFINDER tee, KALEIDOSCOPE top), candy (BUBBLEGUM coat) and my favorite CareBear (DAYDREAM dress). The complete collection is available in a bundle for over 30% for THREE DAYS ONLY! This offer ends ...Continue Reading
metallic silver ruffle tank tutorial
This post is sponsored by Babylock. Earlier today I posted about how the Melody machine takes all my machine feet (the cheapo generic feet!) including the ruffler! There is also a complete tutorial on how to install the foot. But now, I wanted to show you how to put that ruffler foot to good use! I have the most fun using my ruffler foot with unique fabrics that look really lucious in perfectly spaced gathers. I picked up this metallic spandex in Berkeley this summer. So here's how to make this cute little metallic ruffle baby ...Continue Reading
Melody loves the ruffle foot! // sewing 101: the ruffler foot revisited
This post is sponsored by Babylock. The ruffler foot has yet to make an appearance in Ruffles 2013! What would RUFFLES be without the ruffler foot? I just wanted to revisit with my very favorite machine foot: the ruffler. I wrote a post about this foot in my first ruffles event and showed you some cool things you can do with it. I bought my ruffle foot on Amazon, it's generic brand and fits a lot of machines. One of my favorite parts about the Melody machine (and a big reason I got a Babylock) is that it takes all my old machine feet! ...Continue Reading

ruffled nursery art
This post was written by Jaime from C.R.A.F.T. (Creating Really Awesome Free Things). Jaime is probably one of the very first craft bloggers I started following. She is awesome herself and also has a second website called Really Awesome Costumes! Today Jamie is sharing a cute ruffle nursery art project! Hi y'all! I'm super excited to be part of Kate's Ruffles 2013 series! I'm a super novice sewer, like you don't want me to sew anything you might wear n public. It would be bad. I do love to try and I'm certainly getting better. So, today's ...Continue Reading
DIY clothing labels with the Melody alphabet
This post is sponsored by Babylock. A few years ago I posted about my DIY clothing labels using custom fabric. It's always fun to find new ways to make clothing labels, so I was excited about the Melody's alphabet function. It actually has three different alphabets in upper and lowercase. So I've just been embroidering "see kate sew" on everything lately. You can do it directly onto the fabric, or make labels to sew on. To just embroider directly onto the fabric, I like to fuse some interfacing to the back to make the fabric a ...Continue Reading

Today's post was written by Caila of Cailamade. Caila is super nice and has brilliant photography and exquisite sewing skills, I love reading her posts! Today she is sharing a butterfly ruffle sleeve tutorial. Yay for ruffles! Hey everyone, I'm Caila from over at CailaMade, where I share about sewing for my three blond California babes. So, she thanks Kate very much for inviting me to ...Continue Reading
