I started doing a round-up of all my baby sewing tutorials (there have been a lot of those in the last 8 months or so, have ya noticed?). And then I decided to get crazy and add a bunch of tutorials that I have been meaning to try from sewing friends around the internet. I ended up with a list of over 50 great sewing tutorials that will be the perfect reference for baby gifts, friends' babies or your baby! I can't think of too many things more fun and exciting than sewing for a tiny babe that you've never met. 1. ruched baby bloomers 2. ...Continue Reading
ruffled baby dress tutorial
I originally shared this ruffled baby dress tutorial at iCandy Handmade for her Basic Bodice series. Since i'm knee-deep in Project Run and Play preparations (competing against iCandy!), I thought it would be a good time to share it here! Lena has worn this dress already and it is adorable! Pretty much everything I design starts with a basic bodice, so it wasn't hard to come up with another variation. This little dress has a panel of ruffles down the front. Materials: *about 1 yard of fabric, depending on the size you're making *basic ...Continue Reading
fabric bead and knot necklace with a bow
Make your own beat and knot necklace! This fabric statement necklace is super easy to make and it is a great beginner project. You'll want to make more and more because they are really fun. You can wear it as a statement piece or let it double as a teething necklace! I first made this version of the bead and knot necklace when my son was a tiny teething babe. He got his first tooth at four months, talk about unfair! Watching a tiny baby suffer through teething pains is the worst. Anyways, the fabric and wooden beads can double ...Continue Reading

santa monica cinch girl coat pattern
This is my girl coat pattern contribution to the Pattern Anthology Sun & Surf Collection: the Santa Monica Cinch! This is designed for spring with a swingy trapeze style shape and a fun cinched ribbon feature in the back. You can also make a ribbon out of fabric for a different look. I loved designing my first girl's spring coat. I wanted it to be casual with fun little details. The ribbon in the back is the first feature I added. Cinch it up for a more fitted jacket or leave it look for more swing. There are also little pleats ...Continue Reading
sewing 101: the pintuck foot
This foot blew my mind, it's called the pintuck foot! I love pintucks, but I hate making them. This foot makes the pintucks for you! Amazing. It's pretty simple, all you need is the foot and a twin needle. Insert your pintuck foot and twin needle. Adjust your tension to the highest setting. This is really important. A high tension will make the pintuck stick up from the fabric, if it is too loose, the pintuck will not form and it will make two lines of thread. If you look closely, the pintuck foot has a series of grooves on the ...Continue Reading
boy friday: the surfer slacks pattern
I'm excited about my first boy's sewing pattern! This boy pant sewing pattern is a part of the Pattern Anthology: Sun & Surf Collection (which you can purchase here for a great discount until March 24th). I wanted to make a pair of pants that was really comfy and perfect for slipping on quickly after a long day of playing. The waistband is knit with elastic inside. You can make these out of comfy flannel, sweatshirt fleece or knit fabric for even loungy-er pants. I made these in a jacketing fabric, I really want to try it in twill ...Continue Reading
Pattern Anthology: The Sun & Surf Release!
For the last four months or so Andrea, Melissa, Shauna and I have been doing a little secret pattern collaboration and called it Pattern Anthology! It has been one of the most fun things I've participated in since I started blogging! Andrea sent us all an email about the idea and we all hopped on board. Since then we designed two patterns each, giving and recieving feedback as we went. We planned colors, designs and fabrics together to make a cohesive collection. Doesn't that just sound fun? It was SO fun. Anyways, the patterns are ...Continue Reading
boy friday: upcycled slouchy beanie pattern + tutorial
I made this upcycled slouchy beanie in October and put it in the "post-partum post queue" and now looking at the photos is making me sad! My little guy looks like such a baby in these. It's funny how having a new baby will make your toddler seem like a five year old! Anyways, he wears this hat very rarely because he always pulls it off. But if it's cold enough he'll keep it on. It's super easy to make and there is a free pattern piece, too! I used an old tshirt and an old sweater to make two hats. One has a big tshirt pom! This ...Continue Reading
sewing 101: using the buttonhole attachment
A few months ago, on the facebook page, I asked what you're scared of more: zippers or buttonholes. The response was overwhelmingly buttonholes! I would have guessed zippers, so I was a little surprised. But I also know how scary buttonholes can be. They are just so permanent! And if you've ever unpicked one...! But after a little buttonhole therapy (i.e. lots of practice) I can honestly say I'm not scared anymore. And I don't want you to be either, because buttons add so much to sewing projects. So let's go: The buttonhole ...Continue Reading
