Written by Jessica of The Ladyette. This summer I have practically worn out a black beaded tassel necklace of mine because I love the length and the bulk of it paired with flowly summer outfits. This got me thinking I needed to add more tassel accessories to my wardrobe. Today I have a leather tassel necklace tutorial to share with all of you See Kate Sew readers. My favorite part is the turquoise color. Turquoise is like a second black for me...it goes with everything. Supplies Needed: a small piece of leather about 9" long ...Continue Reading
striped metallic hair bow
Today I'm sharing the last project of the Metallic Thread Mini-Series. It has been so fun playing with a new sewing supply! This project is another very simple project, a bow with a striped metallic touch. I used Gold Heavy Metal thread from Maderia. It's really fine and nice and sleek to sew with. For the bow piece, reference one of these tutorials: Date Night Double Bow Knot Bow Tutorial Materials: -Scrap of chambray -Madeira Heavy Metal Thread -hair clip -glue gun Before sewing up the bow, sew stripes of metallic thread ...Continue Reading
FREE PATTERN // metallic gem zipper pouch
This thread is inspiring all sorts of projects. Today I'm sharing this metallic gem zipper pouch project. It has a free pattern download and these are just so cute! You can really use them for anything! I'm going to hoard them for the holidays, probably stuff them with lipgloss for friends. This is my Christmas in July prep, a little late obviously! It will be nice to have a few gifts ready to go! Something about the sparkly, shiny thread got me thinking about gems and jewels. This geometric take on the standard zipper pouch is very ...Continue Reading
little zippy top with hexagons
Today's shiny, sparkly project is a little zippy top! I customized the fabric of this top before sewing it up. That is one of the best parts of sewing for me, making something totally custom! Hexagons are a fun shape and the best part is all the sides are straight so it's easy to stitch them on. I used a Glamour thread for this. It's easy and fun to do! The stitching isn't perfect on this project, it was my first go at metallic thread. I worked through learning by using all the steps mentioned in my sewing 101 post. By the time I was ...Continue Reading
sewing 101: how to sew with metallic thread
To kick off the metallic thread series, I thought it would be fitting to tell you how to sew with metallic thread! It's not super hard, but does require some prep work for a smooth sew. A couple years ago I tried metallic thread but I did everything wrong and it was really hard to sew with. It was one of those experiences that made me avoid metallic thread for a while. It's such a bummer when something turns out like that when all I needed were a few simple tools to make it work. So despite your past experiences with metallic thread, ...Continue Reading
metallic thread series!
Metallic thread has opened up a whole new world to me in the last few months. It is super fun to sew with and has my mind spinning with ideas for things I can glam up a bit! I find inspiration all over the place, but oftentimes the material itself will shape my project and that is what metallic thread has been doing for me! I've put together a little series for the next week or so in partnership with Babylock, Madeira thread and Klasse. I had a lot of fun putting this together. I love how one little sewing supply can give you so many ...Continue Reading

DIY Floral Yoke Top
Written by Vivian of Vivileen. I have another shirt makeover for you this month. This time I thought it would be fun to add a floral yoke to a simple button down shirt! (Do you say button down or button up? It's a never ending argument between my husband and me if button up or button down is correct.) This was an easy project and a fun way to customize a plain denim or chambray shirt. Materials: any plain shirt with a yoke floral fabric pins paper and pencil needle and thread I used a thrifted denim shirt ...Continue Reading
more hoodie! // a colorblocked explorer hoodie
Are you sick of hoodies yet? Sheesh! When I was tweaking the pattern I made quite a few of these. I typically like to test my patterns myself over and over just to be sure things are right, but this hoodie was just so fun to make I got hooked! There are also lots of options and ways to change it up and I had to try them all, multiple times of course. I still have one or two hoodies that just need a zipper sitting around. But I have a few more to share here. I hope you don't mind! The colors were really fun for me to put together on this one. ...Continue Reading
LITTLE ZIPPY pattern hack with gleeful fabrics
I'm thrilled to be on the Gleeful Fabrics Tour today with Sew Caroline's new fabric line for Art Gallery! Gleeful is such a bright and fun collection, it was kinda hard to choose one print. I sorta wish I got the squigglys! But no, this fabric is really gorgeous and we all know my heart belongs to florals. I originally thought I'd make myself something with this fabric, but when I got it I just knew it would be a dress for my girl. You know when some fabric is just telling you what to make with it? MAKE ME A BABY DRESS, is what it said! So, ...Continue Reading
