All this ruffling has made me feel just a little guilty that I haven't sewn for my sweet BOY in a while. Over the next few weeks I have a few boy projects I'll be sharing here and there! I hope you enjoy! Sundays mornings usually turn into a struggle between mama and baby. Mama says "But bow ties are so cute." Baby says "I don't have time for that" by running away. So I thought of this idea, a bow tie that won't pull off, and suspenders that have no function aside from being cute! Comfort for baby, cuteness for mommy. Win-win.I used an old ...Continue Reading

refashioned ruffle tee
For this project I used and old shirt and a thrifted nightgown to make a cute ruffled shirt. The tshirt was in my "get rid of" pile, but I just love the pink houndstooth, so I thought of some way to freshen it up and keep it. The nightgown I had ($3, btw) had a ruffle edge on the bottom. I cut off two piece to use on the sides of my ruffle feature. I also cut a strip 3" by 24" from the regular fabric at the bottom of the nightgown and ruffled it with my ruffler foot at a depth of 8 and pleat frequency of 6. Then I cut that in two piece. One ...Continue Reading
ruffle hot pad tutorial
Materials: -1 solid cotton -1 print cotton -quilt batting-twill tape ruffle: 2 1/2 by 54" For the ruffle, cut out a long strip of fabric, 2.5" wide by 54" long. Fold the strip in half and press. Run a basting stitch along the bottom edge, 1/4" from the bottom. Pull the baste stitching to gather up the fabric into a ruffle. The ruffle needs to be able to go all the way around the hot pad, so set the ruffle aside for now and we'll come back to it. You might need to adjust the length later. To make the hot pad...Cut out two 8" squares. Cut ...Continue Reading
the little scout mini dress!
Mini dresses for some reason remind me of Scout Finch. Maybe I should read To Kill a Mockingbird again, but it seems like if little Scout were to pick a dress to wear, she'd pick a short one because a long one might get in the way of running around. Right? But anyways, this project is so quick! You can do this to any dress pattern or even a plain dress you already have. I called upon my 5-year-old fan club member Brooke to model for me. Where do they learn to model, these little girls? Raw talent! Materials: mini dress 1/4 yard lace For ...Continue Reading
tie on ruffle corsage
I made this little tie on cuff/corsage with a little bit of lace. I think it's fun to wear exciting accessories if the rest of your outfit is pretty plain. I used some of my favorite things: polka dots, lace and a button! Center your lace on your ribbon length and glue it on using a glue gun. Glue the button right in the middle. Done..I don't think that could have been easier! You can try this with different materials or try layering lots of ruffles on top of each other! ...Continue Reading
retro swim cap tutorial
Ruffled ones, of course! I shared this project over a year ago, but realized recently that I never shared the tutorial. I had pictures all ready to go even! So here it is, it's so easy to make your very own retro style swim cap. Materials: Swim cap 1 yard swimsuit material First trace your swim cap and cut two layers of swim fabric. Sew these layers together. For the ruffles, you need lots of strips of 2" swim material. Sew them together and then run them through a ruffler foot. Starting at the bottom of your cap, pin the ruffles on and ...Continue Reading

Today's guest is Taylor from Taylor Made. Taylor is a really sweet blogger and always has brilliant ideas! Her recent spool of thread wall art would be so cute in a craft room! the posey blouse tutorial
I was totally jealous of the 3 year old I made the vanilla frosting dress for, so I made one for myself, in blouse form. I used a blouse pattern that I drafted (and have used here and here) and added a bib of ruffle on the front. This time with serged ruffles. I used serged ruffles and serged unfinished seams to give this blouse a little bit of a deconstruction look. You might be cringing at my serged edge, but I like a little deconstruction fashion once in a while! Materials: -Basic blouse pattern -1 yard fabric (I used a voile by Anna ...Continue Reading
