Shauna from Shwin&Shwin sent me her Maxwell shirt pattern a while ago. And by a while I mean 6 months ago. I've been meaning to make it since, but then summer happened and blah blah blah. KCWC is really kicking me in the pants and making me do things I have been meaning to do. I'm loving that part. And now I'm kicking myself for not making this shirt sooner, isn't it so cute! And so BOY. I upcycled a men's shirt for this top and used buffalo plaid as the accent. I added the little patch on the right hand side after a tragic accident with the ...Continue Reading
kcwc day 4: tiny peplum top
...with a purple peter pan collar! If baby girl is anything like Cohen was at birth (*ahem NINE + pounds), she'll be able to wear this in just three short months! But, hey baby girl, it will still be here in four months, so let's keep it under 9, pretty please?I had a lot of fun making this little peplum top. And j'adore! I got this shirting material at Britex in the summertime. Shirting has been my favorite since then. So fun to work with. I went with greys and the purple collar just worked. The tops tie with little ribbon bows that match ...Continue Reading
kcwc day 3: knit pinafore
Eek, I'm a little behind on KCWC! For day 3 I made this cute little knit pinafore with a ruffle fabric inset! Ruffle Fabric sent me the fabric but I had a hard time thinking of something NEW to make with it. It seems like all the basics have already been done. So instead of making a garment entirely out of the fabric, I just used a little as an inset in the front. I've professed my love for ruffle fabric before, it's so pretty and such great quality of knit. I'm still in love. I love pinafores because they can really work for a long time as ...Continue Reading
kcwc day 2: ceci shorts
I still need to get a crib for the new baby. And figure out which double stroller to get and sell the single stroller and a whole 23 item list of large "to-do"s before this girl arrives (like GO TO THE DENTIST). But, instead of all of that stressful stuff, I decided to start her summer 2013 wardrobe instead. So what. Aren't these shorts cute? The pattern is from my sponsor Petite Kids Boutique, the Ceci shorts. They have little pleated pockets and knotted ties on the hems. The pattern is really easy to follow and made me feel like I really ...Continue Reading
baby faux fur vest pattern + tutorial
I guess I never thought I'd be the type of mom to dress her baby in faux fur. But then I challenged myself to sewing with fall fabrics for a month and it wasn't even a question. (I'm sure I'll have to make sure she doesn't eat the fur, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. For now, form over function.) I love how this came out. And I think it will look pretty rocking on a newborn babe, too. This post includes a baby vest pattern so you can make one too! There is nothing cuter than a little girl in faux fur! I ...Continue Reading
instagram camera costume (+ tutorial)
This idea just came to my mind on Monday. I've been having trouble deciding on Halloween costumes this year. (I've had a WHOLE year to think about it and still, I'm stumped!) So on Monday, we went to Joann and got some more fleece. I usually hate fleece, but this year I've already used a lot of it! Fleece is nice for Halloween costumes because it's cheap and warm! At naptime I whipped up an Instagram Camera costume! It only took half of naptime, and I really love it! I dressed Cohen in all white/cream underneath and called it good! He'll be ...Continue Reading

beached whale shirt
Good way to describe my current state. Well, not yet, but maybe soon. I thought I was pretty funny for printing a whale on a maternity shirt. Hehe. I love whale motifs in general though, so it would be cute to make a whale shirt for kids, too! This is another project using vinyl with the silhouette machine. Materials: *blank maternity tee, mine is from Target *blue fabric paint *vinyl *brush *whale outline, you'll have to use Inkscape to turn this into a silhouette readable file. Cut out the whale with vinyl and stick ...Continue Reading
using the CAMEO to screenprint fabric
The very first thing I thought to do when my Silhouette arrived was to print fabric with a fun design and then cut it up and sew it into something cute! I showed you how to silkscreen forever ago but the Silhouette Cameo™ has revolutionized the way I screen print. Did you hear that?? Revolutionized! It's actually the exact same process as before, but instead of cutting out by hand with a dangerous Xacto knife, I let the CAMEO do all the cutting work for me. Cutting accounts for the majority of the time when silkscreening, and it is a very ...Continue Reading

the zooey petal tunic TUTORIAL
I showed off this tunic at Project Run and Play last week, and I promised a tutorial, so here it is! I used my CAMEO to cut out the fabric flowers, which proved to be a huge time-saver. So first I'll show you how to make the tunic. Then I'll show you how to cut and attach the flowers. assemble the tunic:Use a piece of clothing for the size you want to make the pattern piece. Trace the neckline, shoulder, armhole and side seam. It will look a little like this: Draw a pseudo sleeve like this: Then cut two on the fold. Make sure you raise the ...Continue Reading
