I made this shirt with another one of Megan Nielson's maternity patterns. It's the Ruched Maternity Tee. I'm so thrilled with these patterns! They are simple enough to make but the fit is always perfect and flattering. This shirt sewed up really quick and I love it! It fits way better than the maternity tees I've been wearing from Target. I love that it hugs my belly instead of just falling right off of it. I printed the polka dots on the front piece before sewing it up. I used the CAMEO to make it really easy. How to print the dots: 1. ...Continue Reading
non-slippy star socks
I love the idea of putting puffy paint on the bottom of regular socks to make them non-slip. But I hate how homemade (in a bad way) puffy paint looks. Unleashed from the bottom it just screams homemade and usually tacky. It's hard to get puffy paint to look nice. I found a solution, using silhouette vinyl to give the puffy paint a definite shape. It's really easy, too! Materials: *puffy paint *silhouette vinyl *paint brush *regular socks Cut out a star design with your CAMEO. I used the freehand line tool to draw a little quirky ...Continue Reading
DIY vintage camera onesie
I love old cameras! I'm always tempted to buy them when I see them at estate sales. But instead of starting another collection, I decided printing an image on a onesie is the next best thing. I used a photograph of a Mini Diana camera and rendered it into a shape that the silhouette could cut out. I made the image available for you if you want to do the same exact project. Materials: *blank onesie (I used an Old Navy onesie for this one) *black puffy paint *foam brush *camera image (silhouette readable file) *Silhouette Cameo First, ...Continue Reading
polka dot wellies!
I was really excited when Silhouette sent me some of their new printable foils! It's just so pretty. I thought immediately about making polka dot rain boots. (I should get over this polka dot thing, but whatever. I love them.) I cut out a lot of little polka dots with shiny silver foil and stuck them on. Here's what the file in Silhouette studio (the software comes with the machine) looks like. I made .5" diameter circles with the circle tool and just cut a whole bunch. Not in a polka dot pattern, just so there would be ...Continue Reading
color pop split shoulder seam
Where did this split shoulder trend come from? I'm not a fan. I think it's tacky. But all I can think is, how cool would that look with a big pop of color instead of a hole? So I got one. And then I filled it in with turquoise cotton. And I like it. It's so easy. Here's how: Materials: *shirt with split shoulder seam *scrap of colored cotton *thread to match the shirt Start by cutting a strip of fabric 2" wide by the length of your seam. Finish the edges of the strip. Then, pin it to the inside of one side of the seam. Sew ...Continue Reading
baby boy gift
I love crafting for new babies, it is one of my favorite things. My friend just had her fourth baby, a boy, so I threw together this gift for her baby shower. I made the pacifier clips especially for the new babe by request from his mama, but wanted to add a few other handmade things to send along with them. Since this little baby has an older brother, he only needed fun things and not the essentials, which is even better! Here's what I made:1)Baby boy vest, a pattern from my sponsor Hadley Grace Designs. I made one over a year ago and just ...Continue Reading
belly + baby // ruffled belly band tutorial
It's Monday and time for belly + baby! The belly band is a maternity essential, especially in the first and early second trimesters. The belly band allows you to wear your normal pants unbuttoned and normal shirts that would otherwise be too short. It's a little maternity clothing cop-out! I made this version with a ruffle, to add a little feminine touch to any outfit. Here is the ruffled belly band tutorial: Materials: 1/2 yard stretchy knit fabric Belly Band Pieces: Band: 2 pieces measuring 10" by 28" Ruffle: 1 piece ...Continue Reading
double bow tie tutorial for boys
There are tons of ways to make little boy ties, and here is another! This method gives you a bow tie with a little dimension because the bow piece is made by folding over a longer piece of fabric. I used shirting weight cotton for this tutorial, but you can really use any lightweight material. Materials: -scrap fabric -velcro First cut out three pieces, a neckband piece, a bowtie piece and a middle piece. Make the neckband: 1. Press in the edges of the 13" by 2" piece so they meet in the center. 2. Then, press it in half again ...Continue Reading
floppy tie onesie tutorial
I love little boy ties and tie onesies are really cute. But I love the way ties flop around when kids run around, so I made this semi-detached tie onesie. It has all the thrill of a tie onesie and all the flop of a real tie! (I made this for a baby shower, don't worry, it's still a girl!) Tie Onesie Materials *blank onesie*scraps of fabric, I used shirting weight cotton*pattern piece download TIE ONESIE TEMPLATES First, cut out two tie pieces and two knot pieces.Sew the tie pieces and knot pieces together, right sides together. ...Continue Reading
belly + baby // ruffle diaper covers pattern + tutorial
Welcome to another installment of Belly and Baby! Today I'm sharing a pattern for ruffled diaper covers. I made a basic diaper cover for the new baby and then realized it was too plain! So, I added a ruffle on the top edge and I'm totally in love! These diaper covers are so fun to make, I've already made a short stack of them! You can never have enough diaper covers, right? Let's get started: Ruffle Diaper Cover Materials quilting weight cottonskinny elastic1/2" single fold bias tapesaftey pin for threading ...Continue Reading
shared nursery on my mind
1.ikea gulliver crib turned toddler bed 2.fox print 3.climbing vines curtains 4.waterfall ruffle pillow 5.eames rocker 6.grayson mini crib I'm busy thinking up nursery ideas lately. Cohen and babygirl will be sharing a room and while we already have most of the furniture(dresser, toddler bed and rocker), we'll need a few more things and a new theme. I'm not set on a color scheme yet, but I do know I want lots of colors. I'm definitely not going to say no to either pink or blue just because there will be both a boy and girl in the room. I'm ...Continue Reading
