The Flintstones make a great theme for group or family costumes so this DIY Bam Bam Costume is a great addition! This costume is so quick to make using felt.
I love how cute these costumes are barefoot! I think they would look cute with brown sandals, too.
The Flintstones costumes are surprisingly easy! You can make these in an afternoon! I added a white shirt underneath this Bam Bam costume, but you can replace that with a onesie for a smaller child, or go shirtless for a true Bam Bam look!

Homemade Bam Bam Costume for Toddler Instructions
Use a 3/8″ seam allowance. Start by cutting out two layers of the skirt piece with the orange felt.
Sew the skirt pieces together with side sides together. Sew along the side seams.
Cut a piece of 1″ elastic the length of the waist measurement for the size you are making. For a size 4/5 I cut a piece of elastic about 21″ long. Overlap the ends of the elastic and sew together in a loop. Stretch the loop around the inside of the skirt and pin. Sew with a zig zag stitch along the top of the skirt.
Turn the skirt right side out and fold the elastic down. Pin in place.
Topstitch along the outside of the skirt with a zig zag stitch, sewing the elastic to the skirt about 3/4″ from the top edge of the skirt.
Glue on the boomerang shapes all over. Place the large part of the brown strap to the left side on the front and use glue to attach. Glue or sew the other side of the strap to the back right. Glue the four bone pieces together in a stack and glue bone to the front on top of the brown strap.
Bam Bam Hat Tutorial
This DIY Bam Bam Costume is not complete without an orange hat! Bam Bam’s hat has the half circle shapes all over it and a Pom pom on top. You can use one of these Pom pom makers to make the pom pom easily.
To make this hat, we’ll start with an old hat and cover it with orange felt.
I used an old pleather hat for this project. Glue along the bill of the hat and then lay felt on top.
Cut off the extra felt.
Fold under the excess along the front of the hat and glue down.
Cut out triangles in a similar shape to the hat’s top. Glue on all the way around.
Glue the smaller black boomerang/moon shapes to the hat. Then glue a pom pom on top!
Bamm Bamm Bat Tutorial
To make the Bam Bam bat, use a plastic bat. If you can find a brown one you won’t need to paint it. Otherwise, either use spray paint or fabric to cover the bat brown.
I found a really cheap bat at Walmart but there were a few different textures on it, so I used brown felt to cover it. I used a glue gun to put a line of glue all the way down the bat and then rolled it to adhere to the felt. Add more glue until it is completely covered.
