DIY Dorothy Costume Wizard of Oz

Make your own DIY Dorothy costume with this easy tutorial! All you need is a simple gingham dress and a few accessories to complete the perfect Dorothy costume!

This costume DIY is so easy – all you need is a yard or two of blue gingham fabric. I used my easiest dress pattern to make this dress – the Easy Summer Dress – and layered it underneath a Peter Pan collar shirt.

The Easy Summer Dress Pattern is available in my shop and it’s a very quick and easy dress to sew! I have made dozens of these and they are in regular rotation in my girls’ closets. I can usually make one in less than an hour, but the best part is you can use any quilting cotton for this dress. Showcase your favorite fabric prints with this dress pattern!

The accessories are store-bought or found around the house. And as a bonus, the Toto basket makes a perfect trick-or-treat basket! Any fluffy black stuffed animal like a cat or dog will work for a Toto looking dog.

I used strips of fabric about 1″ by 10″ to create tiny little hair bows. I didn’t finish this fabric, just cut or rip a quick strip of fabric to finish off the Dorothy costume!
